GUANTANAMO MILITARY FLIGHTS - DOCUMENTS ARCHIVE for breakdown of passengers on each flight to Guantanamo - see www.ghostplane.pbwiki.com
Key documents: The Portuguese flight logs , obtained by Ana Gomes, member of European Parliament. (Original data ) , showing US-registered planes en route to and from Guantanamo, over the Azores region of the Atlantic. Spanish flight logs, obtained by El Pais, cover a more limited time period but show that flights across Portuguese-controlled Azores air space had previously flown across Spanish air space. Flight logs compared against weight data of prisoners at Guantanamo, released by the Pentagon, and listed by prisoner number (ISN). For names of prisoners for reach ISN and nationality etc, see US Department of Defense, list and details of detainees at Guantanamo Among those picked up on these flights were some Algerians picked up in Bosnia - Lawyer's memo on Algerians rendered from Bosnia (Main Pentagon page for Guantanamo FOIA documents released)
FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS BY ANA GOMES and European Parliament
- Exchanges with Portuguese government
1. The letter numbered "1.37 " was sent by the Portuguese Foreign Minister to the Chair of the Temporary Committee on the CIA flights of the European Parliament; in it, the Minister admits that some flights landed in Portugal/crossed Portuguese airspace on their way to/from Guantanamo, thus reversing previous statements. 2. The letter numbered "1.38" was sent by the Minister's Chief of Staff to the Chair and contains a list of seven flights that fit the above description. Both letters underline that these flights are legitimate, since they were given authorizations under a blanket clearance in the context of Operation Enduring Freedom, an operation "which takes place under the aegis of the UN and NATO".
Exchanges with Turkish government (These involved inquiries into the former Guantanamo citizen Murat Kurnaz)
Exchange of letters (to ambassador , reply ) on the case of Mr. Murat Kurnaz with the Turkish Ambassador, Mr. Bozkir. Mr. Bozkir states that Mr. Kurnaz was transferred to Guantanamo the 15th of February of 2002, according to American sources (see attached DOC 8 and DOC 9).
As per the NAV list, on the 15.02.02 there is a flight to Guantanamo coming from an unidentified airport.
Exchanges with NATO
Exchange of letters with the Secretary General of NATO, answering to Mrs Gomes' request to confirm whether there were any military flights in the context of NATO operations , which transited through Portuguese airspace or airports, and whose final destination / point of origin, were the US facilities on Guantanamo Bay (see attached: DOC 6 and DOC 7).
Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer's answer is clear: NATO's "aircraft do not fly and have not flown to or from Guantanamo Bay". (Mrs Gomes' comments )
